A smo preživeli in šli naprej.

LigLAN 2013
Zagorje, 26. in 27. oktobra 2013
Call of Duty 4 (3vs3)
League of Legends (5vs5)
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (fun turnir)

FRiSK 2013 Lanparty
Murska Sobota, 25. in 26. oktober 2013
Call of Duty 4
League of Legends (5vs5)
StarCraft2 (1vs1)

RADIOACTIVE LAN #2
Krško, 26. in 27. oktobra 2013
League of Legends (5vs5)

C’mon ppl, seriously?

Predictions: KSET E-Sports LAN #3

The Croatian gaming organization E-Sports Hrvatska just announced the Round of 16 brackets for the much awaited tournament KSET E-Sports LAN #3 that will take place on Sunday, 29th of September 2013 in Zagreb. Seven players were invited directly by the organizers, four qualified by finishing top2 at the preliminaries, while the last five participants got their spots with the points rewarded during the two qualifiers that took place on 19th and 22nd of September.

Almost all the best players from Croatia will be present, and with the likes of Ptak, CheeseKing, frozz and Deny all competing, it will be an interesting tournament indeed. The rest of invited players are sprEEEzy, ibanez and ZoMBi, all of whom are considered as the top tier players with decent results on local events. Blask, Cyze, VegetaSSfive, Razbu, HighArt, NiRak, in-form sPlico and the two Slovenians Evuser and VonComet will be joining the mentioned players to compete for the  prizes that will be announced shortly. With that being said, let’s get to the predictions! Disclaimer: this are a bias predictions, based solely on the author’s opinion.

THE USUAL SUSPECTS

Among the participating players, four of them stand out, either because of their past achievements or current activity and form: the living legend Ptak, the reigning champion of KSET (and probably Croatia) CheeseKing, and the fan favorite Terran players frozz and Deny. However, that does not mean that they are a sure bet for the top4 placement.

CheeseKing

If we look at the recent results, CheeseKing is the first favorite to win it all. He placed second at the Tech-lab.si SC2 Cup earlier this month, only losing to Starbuck in the finals after beating all of his opponents but sPlico with a convincing score of 2 against 0 (we’ll get to sPlico later). He also won against sprEEEzy and ZoMBi on the CSL Season 7, before the league sadly closed it’s doors. This time, he will face VegetaSSfive in the Round of 16 and it would be a big upset if CheeseKing doesn’t make it to the next round. Even Razbu and Evuser, both of whom are good players, don’t have a lot of chance to beat the cheese. In fact, the first real candidates to finally take the crown from CheeseKing are his teammate frozz and the Croatian legend Ptak, if/when they meet, but at the moment, CheeseKing is the player to beat. All in all, predicting him to be in the finals and winning it all is the safest bet to go with, and I’m sticking with it. He remains one of the most strong, in-form and talented players in the Balkan region.

Ptak

Ptak is such an experienced player that even his inactivity (didn’t really participate on a lot of tournaments recently) and inconsistent form don’t matter when it comes to LAN tournaments. The best Croatian Zerg player is either having a slump, or the younger players improved, but in the past month, he lost against Starbuck, frozz and Deny, while CheeseKing got the better out of him at the previous KSET LAN. Anyhow, the mentioned players are one of the best in ex-Yugoslavia region, so there is nothing to be ashamed of, even for a player of Ptak’s caliber, who still keeps wining against the rest of the competition that he has faced and he got his place in the Grandmaster league back as well. But he will have to show better games and rely on his experience to take the gold. Truth to be told, he has an easier brackets, so placing top4 remains a realistic goal and it’s up to him to show us that he can produce and contend for that first place that has eluded him on the previous KSET tournaments. It’s likely for him to beat Blask and sprEEEzy or sPlico, which could and should lead to a rematch of a deciding game of the second Croatian SSA Season 3 Qualifiers that he lost against Deny, something I bet we all would love to see.

frozz

frozz is back to playing, competing and streaming, and he remains a fan favorite, but he had his shaky moments in the past month. Losing to the likes of LiveZerg, Starbuck, NightEnD, TomikuS, Monty, Goody and Adonminus (who qualified for the Challenger League..) is nothing to worry about, it just shows how active and good he really is, as most of the players in Balkan wouldn’t even come that far in any of the tournaments he attended. Yet dropping a series against sPlico (group stage, but still) and losing a map in a best-of-three against Deumos tells us one of the following stories: either he still has some rust to shake off, or he has to overcome his nerves and keep his calm. Beating sprEEEzy, bombibaby and Ptak on CSL Season 7 means he can win against the very best players, and I don’t see him losing to NiRak, ZoMBi or HighArt, so it will all come down to his semi-finals against his teammate CheeseKing for that spot in the finals. Will frozz be the one to take down CheeseKing? He would at least like to redeem himself for his last KSET performance, when he didn’t even make it into the top4 many expected him to.

Deny

Deny is the last of the big dogs, but definitely not the least, no matter his current form. He is a true competitor, who knows what it takes to play well and win on tournaments with high stakes, as he showed us in the past (remember the ESWC and WCG qualies). Among other things, he is known for preparing for his opponents, so he cannot be overlooked, specially not at the tournament with so many players he is familiar with. Sure, he recently lost to Starbuck (OMGL), Stormborn (CSL) and ParadoxX (SSA S3 Qualies #1), but taking that spot for SteelSeries Arena Season 3 from Ptak makes him one of the favorites for the KSET. If all goes as predicted, he will once again face his friend/rival/teammate Ptak, this time for the spot in the finals at KSET LAN #3. Brace yourself, we might have another epic battle between the two oldschool legends of Croatian StarCraft2 scene, something that any fan from around the region should look forward to! I sure do.

THE REGULAR FIGHTERS

We all know that sPlico, ibanez and ZoMBi are considered as strong and talented players, but they just don’t have a resume of the Croatian Big Four. VonComet, on the other hand, is back to practicing and competing after his short period of inactivity (slacking), which usually follows after he starts to play well and placing good on LANs.

ZoMBi

ZoMBi is his usual self, winning against and losing to those he is supposed to. His results don’t stand out, but he remains one of the most active and liked players on the scene. His first opponent on KSET LAN #3 will be HighArt, whom he should win against, but that means he should proceed to lose against frozz in the Ro8. If he gets any further than that, it would be a success, albeit I’m not betting on that. But it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise either .. if he gets pass HighArt to start with.

ibanez

ibanez was one of the brightest prospects of the Croatian scene, reaching his prime when he beat frozz in the quarter finals of KSET LAN #2 and made a name for himself. However, he somehow vanished from the competitive scene, not really participating on any notable events except for the CSL. We will see how he fairs this time; if he prepares well and trains a bit, he is more than capable of upsetting one of the favorites, starting with Deny and maybe even Ptak, while if he doesn’t, he could end his run in the Ro16, and his opponent in the first round is not just somebody you can underestimate.

VonComet

Not many Croatian players are familiar with a Slovenian Terran VonComet, but despite his recent inactivity after placing 3rd on Offblast 2013 LAN in early August, he remains recognized as the second best StarCraft2 player from Slovenia (until proven differently). He didn’t participate on any tournament since that LAN up to the second KSET qualifiers, where he won against mairaki, Blask and his fellow countrymen and teammate Evuser to get the spot for the Round of 16. Now the question is if he can beat ibanez, which he is capable of if he plays his A-game. But more than top8 would be a big achievement for the Slovenian Terran, specially considering his inactivity and slump in his form. It remains to be seen if he has enough time to get back to his top form and go far in this tournament.

sPlico

Finally, there is sPlico, who seems to be another fan favorite and one of the most exciting players to watch, at least in my opinion. He showcased his know-how against frozz, beating him in the group stage of Tech-lab.si SC2 Cup, and CheeseKing, who narrowly won against sPlico in the semi-finals of the same tournament with a score of 2 to 1. He qualified to the KSET with an ease, winning against Billis, VegetaSSfive and Evuser, and could even upset the Zerg duo of sprEEEzy and Ptak if he plays it right. He should make it to the Round of 8, and if he does, his game against Ptak should be very interesting. Is he bound for another top4 finish? Not likely against Ptak, but it’s possible. If someone can do it, sPlico can!

THE UNDERDOGS

sprEEEzy

sprEEEzy is one of those ever-present evergreen players who manage to stay in A league of now closed CSL, but he has yet to achieve a notable success. Not much can be concluded from his recent results: he did lose to frozz and CheeseKing in CSL Season 7, and ZoMBi on the second SSA Season 3 qualifiers. But this is KSET, the most prestige Croatian SC2 tournament with a lot at stake, so his Ro16 game against the in-form sPlico will be an important one. In some version of the reality, he might make it in the semi-finals, but sooner or later one of the players (sPlico, Ptak, Deny) should prove to be too much for our Croatian Zerg. Let’s wait and see who that will be, but playing more would definitely help him..

Blask &  Cyze

Blask and Cyze have totally different personalities, but both are not to be ignored. While their form and results may vary from tournament to tournament, if they can be more consistent, they should not be underestimated. Both compete a lot and both are waiting for their opportunity to shine – could this be it? Blask versus Ptak and Cyze against Deny are matchup’s that are in favor of the veterans, but in the end, anything can happen. It will be up to Deny and Ptak to go with their normal game plan and win, or Cyze and Blask to play over their heads and upset one or the two giants.

Evuser

Evuser was once the Slovenian BossToss, but is nowdays recognized as the top4 Zerg from his homeland, which is a bigger thing then you might think, as he is in a company of Starbuck, Pajack and Deumos. Experienced and macro oriented as he is, his series against Razbu will be an interesting one, but even if he manages to advance, it will be hard, almost impossible for him to overcome the King of the Cheese.

VegetaSSfive

While VegetaSSfive is one of the most active player around, he is still waiting for his breakthrough. It’s doubtful that will happen at KSET, but that’s because he has to face CheeseKing in the Round of 16, and beating him would be a major upset. Nonetheless, if he fights cheese with cheese, it just might happen. Lag and lucky mines could also do the trick for Vegeta to take a map from the King. But taking the whole series? Not quite.

NiRak

I don’t really know that much about NiRak, except for that comeback he made in the second game against Razbu in the semi-finals of the second KSET qualifiers, which shows that he is a fighter. But much like Vegeta, NiRak has a tough match in Ro16 against frozz and his Hellions, and I can’t imagine him beating the Terran without some really aggressive play that just might work – once.

HighArt

If I’m not mistaken, we are still waiting for the manager to make a LAN appearance, and if he beats ZoMBi, he will have no choice. HighArt is one of those players that gets better slowly but surely, and if he would devote more time to playing, he would for sure improve even more. But at the moment, he might get past ZoMBi, who can slip occasionally and lose against the Protoss players he shouldn’t (for example HuK..?), but even if that happens, frozz might be too much for the Vega manager to advance further into the brackets.

Razbu

Last but not least, here we have the Terran Razbu. He has been around for ages, and while there are not many official games of him playing in the last month or so, he did win against NiRak to qualify for KSET. However, losing against ZoMBi at Arena preliminaries tells a different story. The match between Evuser and Razbu is the only Ro16 series without a seeded player, and most likely the closest one (maybe on pair with ibanez vs VonComet), therefore the hardest one to predict, but judging by their activity and ladder standings (I know, I shouldn’t care about ladder..), I would give the slight advantage to Evuser, and only Razbu can prove me wrong.

THE FINAL VERDICT

Enough of nonsense trashtalk, lets’ get down to business. So, here are my bias/subjective prediction of KSET LAN #3! Finally!

It’s less than a week until the thirt edition of KSET E-Sports LAN starts, so be sure to follow their homepage to stay in touch with all the updated about the tournament that is recognized as the most competitive offline StarCraft2 event in the ex-Yugoslavia region.

Black Bart’s Steakhouse: večerja in musical

Arizona, USA – petek, 13. september 2013.

Nikjer ni bilo zaslediti žive duše, če izpustimo nekaj avtodomov, prikolic in šotorov v neposredni bližini.

Prvi na sporedu bo BYOC (bring your own computer) dogodek z imenom FRiSK 2013 Lanparty, ki bo potekal 25. in 26. oktobra v Murski Soboti, na njem pa bodo organizirana tekmovanja v League of Legends, StarCraft2 in Call of Duty 4.

Zopet isti datum, ista videoiger, le drug konec Slovenije. Same old, same old.

To bo zaenkrat vse. Se vidimo v Murski, Krškem in Ljubljani … ups, can’t be in two places at once.

Napoved: gamingHOUSE FIFA13 #2

Amadej ‘amadej‘ Gangl
